Three special new ponies were released in Year 8, between 1989 and 1990. These were the Pony Bride, Merry Treat, and Baby Princess Sparkle. The Pony Bride was the first wedding pony to be sold in US stores, and Merry Treat was similarly the first Christmas pony to be sold in stores (though both wedding ponies and Christmas ponies had been available previously through exclusive mail-order offers). Baby Princess Sparkle came with an updated version of the Baby Buggy that had originally been released with Baby Cuddles, this time in shades of bright pink with glitter. She was the only baby pony ever identified as a princess.
The Pony Bride is a white adult earth pony with lavender eyes. Her hair is white with iridescent plastic tinsel. Her symbol is two lavender doves tying an aqua ribbon around two yellow wedding rings. She is in the Bride Pose. (This pose would be used for another, very similar bride pony two years later.) Strangely, she does not have a name. She came with a white lace veil, a wedding cake with color decals, a gold-colored ring with a fake diamond, a pink flower pick, and a ribbon.
Merry Treat is a white adult earth pony with green eyes. Her hair is very long, and is striped dark green and dark red. Her symbol is a laughing Santa Clause printed in red and green on white, holding a candy cane and surrounded by green holly leaves and red berries. Merry Treat is in the Posey Pose. She came with a dark green Christmas tree comb and a yellow ribbon.
Baby Princess Sparkle is a white baby earth pony with blue eyes. Her hair is light pink with blue, pink, and gold metallic tinsel. Her symbol is a glittery gold and purple castle on a cloud, and she has a glittery gold star on her forehead. She is in the Baby Blossom Pose. Apart from the four unicorn and pegasus babies from the original Year 3 Baby Ponies set, Baby Princess Sparkle was the only baby pony printed with a glittery symbol. She was also the only US baby pony to have tinsel in her hair, and the only G1 pony of any kind to have a glittery facial symbol.
Baby Princess Sparkle came with a new version of the Baby Buggy playset, this time printed in dark pink with a glittery umbrella. The new playset included a pink felt blanket, an aqua dish, a pink spoon, an aqua training cup, a pink shooting star barrette, a dark purple duck comb, and a white and silver lace ribbon.
