Sea Ponies, Baby Sea Ponies, and Fancy Mermaid Ponies were all designed to be played with in water. All three types of ponies have holes in their bodies to allow water to drain out, and the adult and baby Sea Ponies could actually float upright in water.
In the US, adult Sea Ponies were printed in Years 2 and 3, and Baby Sea Ponies were printed from Year 3 through Year 6. Both adult and baby Sea Ponies were available in various years in other countries. Fancy Mermaid Ponies were printed only in Year 10, and only in the US.
Sea Ponies were modeled after seahorses. They have smaller heads than adult ponies, and they have long bodies, spiral tails, and dorsal and pectoral fins. Adult Sea Ponies have weights in their tails to help them stay upright in water. Each Sea Pony has a hole at the back of her head for easy water drainage.

The "Sea Pony Pose" was introduced in Year 2, and was only used for two years in the US. In Year 3 it was printed with two different heads (see "Sand Dollar Head" below). It was used in various years in other countries.
The head and body of this pose face straight forward, and the tail curls forward.
The "Sand Dollar Head" was introduced in Year 3, and was only used three times in the US. It faces straight forward and is tilted up.
This head was used with the adult "Sea Pony Pose" body, which was originally printed in Year 2 with a different head (see "Sea Pony Pose" above).
Like the adults, Baby Sea Ponies were modeled after seahorses. They are about the same size as Baby Ponies, and they have long bodies, spiral tails, and dorsal and pectoral fins. Baby Sea Ponies came with floats to help them stay upright in water. Each Baby Sea Pony has a hole at the back of her head for easy water drainage.

The Fancy Mermaid pose was one of the last poses made. It is a little larger than a Newborn Ponies, and unlike the Sea Ponies it has front legs and a scaled fish tail. There is a hole on the underside of the Fancy Mermaid Pose for easy water drainage. Ponies in this pose will not stay upright in water.
