At the time they were printed, Newborn Twin Ponies were intended, apparently, as infant ponies -- literally newborns. However, the Teeny Tinies, printed several years later, were considerably smaller; they stand only about 5 1/2 centimeters tall, and were the smallest pony poses every made, apart from UK exclusive Surprise Twins baby pose and, of course, Petite Pony poses.
There are nine different Newborn Pony poses, which, given that there were only three US sets of newborns, is fairly impressive. As with most types, the majority of the newborns are earth ponies; the minority, pegasus. There are only two different Teeny Tiny poses, and both are earth ponies.
There are five different newborn earth pony poses, some of which can be difficult to tell apart -- in particular, the Shaggy Pose and the Dangles Pose.

This pose was used only twice in the Year 6 Newborn Twins set, and was never used again.
The "Tappy Pose" was introduced in Year 6. This pose is crouched with the two front legs bent with the hooves flat, and the two rear legs straight with the hooves flat. The head faces straight forward.
This pose was used in Years 6 and 7 in the US, and in various years in other countries.
The "Newborn Bouncy Pose" was introduced in 1993, and was used only once, for the Surprise Newborns set, which was only available in Europe. The Newborn Bouncy Pose can stand on two feet or on all four. The front two legs are extended forward, and the rear legs are extended back. The right front leg is slightly bent, and the head faces straight forward.

Newborn Unicorn Poses
There are only two newborn unicorn poses, but together they were used a total of eight times in the US. Surprisingly, there are 2/3 as many Newborn Pony unicorns as there are Baby Pony unicorns, even though there are four times as many Baby Pony sets as there are Newborn sets.

Only two newborn pegasus poses were made, and each was used for both members of a different Newborn Twin pair. These were the only newborns twin pairs to feature two ponies in the same pose.
The "Dibbles Pose" was introduced in Year 5. This pose stands with all four feet flat and the head turned downward and slightly to the right. The front legs are shorter than the back legs.

The Teeny Tiny poses are so small that they scarcely even resemble ponies, and are sometimes mistaken by non-collectors for kittens or rodents due to their disproportionatly large ears and tiny noses. Only two Teeny Tiny poses were printed, each with the number "1" or "2" underneath the hoof to tell them apart.
