The Summer Wing Ponies, introduced in Year 6 (1987-1988), were similar in some ways to the Flutter Ponies of the previous two years. Summer Wing Ponies are small and thin, and have translucent, colored butterfly wings. These wings are much less delicate than Flutter Pony wings, but are still easily bent or scratched. Unlike Flutter Pony wings, they are not removable, and do not flap.
Like the Flutter Ponies, the Summer Wing Ponies each have a small symbol printed on the nose or cheek. Only one set of Summer Wing Ponies was printed, but the Windy Wing Ponies of the following year were almost identical in design. Each pony came with a flower pick and a metallic ribbon.
Buzzer is a dark aqua-blue Summer Wing pony with yellow hair and pink eyes. Her symbol is a yellow bee with three yellow flowers around it. She has a small yellow flower on her right cheek. Buzzer's wings are dark pink with yellow and blue markings. She is in the Buzzer Pose, and has Swallowtail Wings. Buzzer came with a pink flower pick and a metallic ribbon.
Sky Dancer is a magenta Summer Wing pony with blue hair and dark blue eyes. Her symbol is a white dove with an olive branch in its beak. She has a small olive branch on her nose. Skydancer's wings are yellow with pink and green markings. She is in the Glow Pose, and has Swallowtail Wings.

Glow is a blue Summer Wing pony with light pink hair and pink eyes. Her symbol is a pink firefly, and she has a smaller pink firefly on her nose. Glow's wings are orange with a blue strip at the edge, and have pink stipes and orange and blue dots. She is in the Glow Pose, and has Monarch Wings.

Highflier is a purple pony with aqua hair and aqua eyes. Her symbol is a metallic silver dragonfly, and she has a smaller dragonfly on her nose. Highflier's wings are yellow and with aqua edges and lavender markings. She is in the Highflier Pose, and has Round Wings. Highflier came with a yellow flower pick and a metallic ribbon.
Lady Flutter is a pink Summer Wing pony with white hair and blue eyes. Her symbol is a yellow ladybug, and she has a smaller yellow ladybug on her cheek.
