The first set of Sweetheart Sister Ponies appeared in Year 7, between 1988 and 1989. They would be followed the next year by two new sets, the Glittery Sweetheart Sister Ponies and Prom Queen Sweetheart Sister Ponies. (Later years would feature more ponies in the same style, but these were the only three sets to use the words "Sweetheart Sister" in the name.)
Sweetheart Sister Ponies seem to have been intended as teenage or young-adult ponies. They have slender bodies, narrow faces, and longer, thinner legs than most other ponies. Their also have more eyelashes than other ponies, and narrower eyes. All of the Sweetheart Sisters are earth ponies, and they all wear eyeshadow and have a flower-shaped earring in one ear. Each pony's symbol displays a bouquet of a different type of flowers. The Sweetheart Sister ponies all came with a mesh bow, a butterfly brush or flower brush, and a ribbon.
Flower Burst is a blue young-adult earth pony with dark blue hair and purple eyes. She has mint green eyeshadow and wears a pink earring in her left ear. Her symbol is a bouquet of pink tulips with mint green stems and leaves, all tied in a pink bow. She is in the Spring Song Pose. Dainty is a pink young-adult earth pony with dark pink hair and aqua-green eyes. She has lavender eyeshadow and wears a lavender earring in her right ear. Her symbol is a bouquet of lavender flowers (each with six petals) with aqua-green stems and leaves, all tied in a lavender-pink bow. She is in the Dainty Pose. Spring Song is a pale purple young-adult earth pony with lavender hair and aqua eyes. She has yellow eyeshadow and wears a yellow earring in her left ear. Her symbol is a bouquet of yellow flowers.
