Newborn Twin Ponies were introduced in Year 5 (1986-1987), and were the first baby ponies not intended to correspond to previously printed adult ponies. A second set of Newborn Twins was released the following year, and in Year 7 a set of indivindual Newborn Ponies appeared as well.
Some pairs of Newborn Twins are identical in colors, but not all, and though each pair shares the same symbol, the matching symbols are not always printed in the same colors. Every pair of twins came with either a bassinet, a stroller, or two snail rockers. Each pair also came with two bear brushes, two ribbons, two white bottles, two diapers in a diaper box, and one of the following accessories: a dish and two spoons, two rattles, two ID necklaces, or two floral-print sleepers.
