The Pony Friends were the first My Little Ponies who were not ponies at all, but were instead other kinds of animals. They were printed in Year 5, between 1986 and 1987. Each of the Pony Friend poses was used only once. A second set of Pony Friends was released the following year, however, and in Year 7, a set of baby ponies came with Pretty Pals, which were similar to Pony Friends. Each pony friend came with a brush or comb and a ribbon.
