Baby Sparkle Ponies, printed in Year 8 (1989-1990), were modeled after the adult Sparkle Ponies of the previous year, although they did not correspond to the adults in matching mommy and baby sets. Like the adults, Baby Sparkle Ponies have translucent bodies full of glitter, but they do not have tinsel in their hair like the adults do. All of the Baby Sparkle Ponies were named after adult ponies from Years 2-4, and they were printed in the four earliest baby pony poses. Each pony came with a star brush or a star comb.
In Europe, variations of the Baby Sparkle Ponies were released under the name Starlight Baby Ponies. They share the same symbols and poses as the Sparkle babies, but have non-glittery bodies, tinsel in their manes and tails, and different body and hair colors.
